Cold and Flu season is here - it is good to have your immune system in peak condition

10/12/2019

With the change in season it is a good time to be thinking about boosting your immunity. Vulnerable people such as children and the elderly, people with low immunity and other susceptible people including asthmatics or people with chronic sinusitis and chronic obstructive airway diseases (COAD) need to pay particular attention to their immunity.

Within thirty minutes of consuming sugar your immune system may be suppressed for several hours. Research shows that after two hours of eating the sugary food your white cell count could be reduced. All processed and fast foods are extremely high in sugar, salt and fat. The intake of such food products should be significantly reduced or avoided completely, if your immune system is to thrive.

Immune deficiency can occur due to several reasons especially if your organs are involved such as spleen, tonsillitis, bone marrow and lymph nodes as these organs release lymphocytes these cell are the ones which fight the invading bacteria and virus parasites. Your immune system is also affected if you suffer from other diseases such as HIV, Sickle cell anaemia, Cirrhosis of the liver etc.

By swapping sweets, bars, cakes, biscuits, pastries and buns with fresh fruit, natural yoghurt and cereals such as unsweetened muesli and porridge, you can significantly reduce your sugar intake. It is important to have three well balanced meals a day. These should include fish especially oily fish, nuts, seeds, grains and other foods that are high in fibre. Lean white meats are better than red and fatty meats. Other sustaining foods are wholemeal breads made with spelt, wheat or rye flour, brown rice, wholemeal pasta and potatoes with the skins on, if not sprayed with chemicals.

You should drink about two and a half litres of fluid per day, water being the best choice. Avoid all sugary drinks and foods as well as those containing artificial sweeteners. Keep fruit juice made from concentrate to one or two glasses per day and dilute it with water. It has high sugar content in the natural form of fructose. The best drinks are water, green tea, herbal teas and freshly made fruit and vegetable juice. (Carrot, apple juice, elderberries and ginger are great immune boosters). In dark, cold winter days a chicken and vegetable stew with garlic, pinch of turmeric and fresh herbs sprinkled over it is a heart warming as well as immune boosting.

Be sure to get enough sleep, regular exercise, fresh air and sunlight. Mild regular exercise is important as well as keeping well wrapped up with proper clothing. Try to avoid sudden changes of temperature, going from hot to cold or vice versa which can be difficult when moving from overheated offices to outside.

At the Holistic Health Clinic, Dr. Bhatti uses a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with evidence based therapies such as Micro-immunotherapy, Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), Gut Health and Microbiome restoration, Nutritional and Nutraceutical therapies, Lifestyle Medicine, Natural Hormonal Balancing, Glandular support, Soft tissue and joint support, Complex Homeopathy, Herbals, and Needle free Medical Acupuncture, Therapeautic Mindfulness and CBT techniques to achieve excellent results.

Dr Bhatti is the first doctor to practise Micro-Immunotherapy in Ireland

Micro-immunotherapy can be successfully used as a supportive therapy for diseases which are the consequence of imbalance in our immune system.

The main object is to restore and correct the functioning of our immune system. Using Serology and other blood tests one can monitor the progress of the treatment.

Here are some examples of the applications of Micro-immunotherapy medications:
  1. Auto-immune diseases – Rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto thyroiditis
  2. Infections - Viral infections (CMV, EBV, Viral Hepatitis, Herpes Simplex), Bacterial infections, Parasitic infections, Fungal infections.  Micro-immunotherapy can help the immune system detect these infective agents and help control their multiplication within the body.
  3. Disorders of bones and joints – Arthrosis, Inflammatory conditions, Periodontitis, Osteoporosis
  4. Neurological disorders - Age-related memory disorders, Parkinsons, Chronic stress, Depression.  Micro-immunotherapy seeks to regulate the immune response and optimally modulate the inflammation and contributes to correcting the function of the nervous system.
  5. Allergies: Allergies are an exaggerated reaction of our immune system triggered by substances such as dust, pollen etc. that for the majority of the population are harmless. Micro-immunotherapy seeks to reduce and help correct the exaggerated response, and helps the individual to better tolerate the allergens.

Micro-immunotherapy medicines are in capsule form and numbered for convenience and compliance and they are compatible with other medicines. The usual dose is once daily before breakfast.

To discuss this and other therapies offered at our clinic, contact Dr. Bhatti at (087) 1915051 or email health@drbhatti.ie.   During your first office visit, Dr. Bhatti may ask you at length about your health-condition, lifestyle and behaviour.  Please consult your GP before starting new treatment.

What is causing my phelgm/mucus? Can Physiological Regulating Medicine help?

14/12/2018

Mucus is normal and forms a lining inside the lungs of a healthy person and helps keep our lungs from drying out and it also forms a barrier against bacteria and viruses.

All healthy bodies require mucus in the lungs and other parts of our bodies but too much of it can lead to uncomfortable symptoms.

Here are only some of the causes of phlegm/extra mucus:
  • Allergies (Hay fever, Asthma, Food Allergies etc )
  • Colds/Flu’s/Sinusitis
  • Tobacco (smoke), air pollution
  • Lung disease e.g. infections such as pneumonia
  • Lung Cancer
  • Hiatus Hernia
  • Acid Reflux
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Cystic Fibrosis etc.

Always consult your Doctor first for any medical advice and to rule out any serious illness. Once the cause is identified and is not serious, complementary therapies can help a lot. Dr Bhatti has been treating allergies/intolerances for the last 30 years.

In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with evidence based therapies such as Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), gut health and microbiome restoration, nutritional and nutraceutical therapies, lifestyle medicine, natural hormonal balancing, glandular support, soft tissue and joint support, complex homeopathy, herbals, needle free mesotherapy and needle free acupuncture to achieve excellent results.

Causes

Some of the most common causes of true under-eye circles are:
