Scientists link absence of certain gut bacteria in patients with depression - an important finding

17/2/2020

Researchers from VIB – Ku Leuven Centre of Microbiology, Belgium by analysing the health data of a large group they have identified the bacteria which may play a role in depression.

The findings appeared in the journal Nature Microbiology in which they named the bacteria producing substances which interacted with the nervous system. These bacteria are known as neuroactive and were identified as genera coprococcus and dialister a remarkable finding.

The scientist found these bacteria were absent from the gut of the patients suffering from depression including the patients who were being actively treated and were on anti-depression medication.

Also in the gut of the people with depression, they found a bacteria usually found in the gut of people suffering from Crohn’s disease (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) pointing towards may be an inflammatory connection.

That’s why Dr Bhatti believes in the importance of a healthy gut and a healthy Microbiome for our physical as well as mental wellbeing. That is why he believes those people who are suffering from depression or any other illness their gut health and gut microbiome status should always be evaluated and corrected if possible. In his complementary clinic Dr Bhatti has been treating Gut Health and Dysbiosis (imbalance between good and bad bacteria) since 1989 .

Relationship disharmony can harm your gut health and microbiome - new findings

10/2/2020

New research suggests that upheaval in a martial or any other relationship can give rise to a whole host of gut related symptoms, increasing the risk of leaky gut syndrome especially if you have a history of anxiety and depression.

Some of the most sensitive topics in martial relationships are money, infidelity and in-laws which can have a devastating effect on mind and health.

Normally our healthy gut lining forms a natural barrier to prevent bad bugs from reaching inside our intestines. But when this lining becomes weak and some cracks and holes appear due to bad bugs especially some fungi (Candida) other pathogens and food waste particles can get into the bloodstream which may lead to inflammation which in turn can lead to an overall change in the gut eco-system. This may lead to a condition called Leaky Gut Syndrome, which has been linked to other conditions such as:

  • Anxiety/Depression
  • Obesity
  • Mental Health issues
  • Cancer

In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with evidence based therapies such as Low Dose Medicine (L.D.M,), gut health and microbiome restoration, nutritional and nutraceutical therapies, lifestyle medicine, natural hormonal balancing, glandular support, soft tissue and joint support, complex homeopathy, herbals, needle free mesotherapy and needle free acupuncture to achieve excellent results.

Naturopathy - Healing as nature intended

3/2/2020

In a nut shell, unhealthy lifestyles - stress, pollutants, poor eating and sleeping patterns, lack of exercise - result in a weakening of the 'vital force'. It is at this point that viruses, bacteria, allergens and chronic stress takes hold and our body ends up in a state of ill heath and disease.

Naturopathic medicine is a system of natural medicine that assists in the restoration of health by following a set of specific rules. It is the understanding and addressing of the underlying causes, rather than suppressing the symptoms, which jump-starts the naturopathic healing process, along with changes in lifestyle and balanced nutrition. This gets rid of body toxins and bolsters defences, leading to a happy and healthy life, full of vitality and vigor. Dr Bhatti made the change and started practicing complementary medicine in 1989.

Dr Bhatti is a qualified medical doctor with a postgraduate diploma from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland. He has worked in all the main hospitals in Galway.  He has also worked in Port Washington Hospital and Milwaukee General Hospital Wisconsin, USA. He has worked in the field of medicine, surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, skin, paediatrics, geriatrics, psychiatry.  Dr Bhatti has over 30 years practice and teaching experience in the field of complementary medical care.

Mindfulness is returning your wandering thoughts to what is happening in the present. This therapy has revolutionised the treatment for stress, anxiety, depression and other mental and physical conditions, especially stress related disorders.

It can enhance the feeling of wellbeing by lowering stress; you can use this technique anywhere and anytime. You can return to your awareness by concentrating on your breathing as breathing is always happening in the present moment, you also incorporate your every day routine with mindfulness such as eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, gardening, lunch break, tea break and before going to bed.

It works well for both easy going and very busy people.

Benefits of mindfulness are many but the main ones are:
  • Stress
  • Anxiety & Depression evidence is strongest for Anxiety
  • Depression (mild cases) do well with a combination of medication and mindfulness and evidence shows that mindfulness can help prevent relapses of depression
  • It can also help in weight management by reducing stress related over eating and stress related cravings

Metabolic syndrome (risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes) this is the scourge of the 20th century, hundreds of thousands of people suffer from this condition all over the world and it is on the increase in our country even in very young people. In our clinic in Urban well-being in Galway we integrate and marry Mindfulness with other complementary therapies such as CBT, Micro-immunotherapy, Low Dose Medicine (L.D.M), Gut health and Microbiome Restoration to achieve excellent results.
