Living with psoriasis

29/1/2019

Psoriasis is caused when skin cells multiply 10 times faster than normal, and these cells, when they reach the surface of the skin and die, give the typical white scaly appearance of this condition. There are several types of Psoriasis, depending on the signs and symptoms, from Plaque Psoriasis to Pustular, Guttate, Inverse and Erythrodermic.

It can spread to fingernails and toenails, and also affect the joints which is appropriately called Psoriatic Arthritis and up to 30% of people with Psoriasis could have joint involvement.

Psoriasis is an uncomfortable and irritating disease which can be difficult to treat, it can come and go in crops or cycles over the lifetime and is not contagious.

There are medications and remedies to clear up the red patches and scales but there is no permanent cure. Some of the medications are not without side effects.

Some causes of Psoriasis and flare-ups:
  • Emotional or physical trauma in about 80% of cases
  • Chronic stress or acute stress such as death in the family/new job
  • Strep infection
  • Injury, especially to skin
  • Certain medications such as some anti inflammatories like Ibuprofen, B.P. medicine
  • Can run in families

Although Psoriasis is irritating and embarrassing, help is available. In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with evidence based therapies such as Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), Gut Health and Microbiome restoration, Nutritional and Nutraceutical therapies, Lifestyle Medicine, Natural Hormonal Balancing, Glandular support, Soft tissue and joint support, Complex Homeopathy, Herbals, and Needle free Medical Acupuncture, Therapeautic Mindfulness and CBT techniques to achieve excellent results.

Cold and flu season is upon us - How to boost your immunity and get ready to face the winter

16/1/2019

With the change in season it is a good time to be thinking about boosting your immunity. Vulnerable people such as children and the elderly, people with low immunity and other susceptible people including asthmatics or people with chronic sinusitis and chronic obstructive airway diseases (COAD) need to pay particular attention to their immunity.
Within thirty minutes of consuming sugar your immune system may be suppressed for several hours. Research shows that after two hours of eating the sugary food your white cell count could be reduced. All processed and fast foods are extremely high in sugar, salt and fat. The intake of such food products should be significantly reduced or avoided completely, if your immune system is to thrive.
Immune deficiency can occur due to several reasons especially if your organs are involved such as spleen, tonsillitis, bone marrow and lymph nodes as these organs release lymphocytes these cell are the ones which fight the invading bacteria, viruses and parasites. Your immune system is also affected if you suffer from other diseases such as HIV, Sickle cell anaemia, Cirrhosis of the liver and other illness or an ongoing stress etc…

By swapping sweets, bars, cakes, biscuits, pastries and buns with fresh fruit, natural yoghurt and cereals such as unsweetened muesli and porridge, you can significantly reduce your sugar intake. It is important to have three well balanced meals a day. These should include fish especially oily fish, nuts, seeds, grains and other foods that are high in fibre. Lean white meats are better than red and fatty meats. Other sustain foods are wholemeal breads made with spelt, wheat or rye flour, brown rice, wholemeal pasta and potatoes with the skins on, if not sprayed with chemicals.

You should drink about two and a half litres of fluid per day, water being the best choice. Avoid all sugary drinks and foods as well as those containing artificial sweeteners. Keep fruit juice made from concentrate to one or two glasses per day and dilute it with water. It has high sugar content in the natural form of fructose. The best drinks are water, green tea, herbal teas and freshly made fruit and vegetable juice. (Carrot, apple juice, elderberries and ginger is a great immune booster). In dark and cold winter days chicken and vegetable stew with some ginger, garlic, pinch of turmeric and fresh herbs sprinkled over it is not only heart warming but also immune boosting.

Be sure to get enough sleep, regular exercise, yoga, indoor sports, some fresh air and sunlight. Mild regular exercise such as walking is important as well as keeping well wrapped up with proper clothing. Try to avoid sudden changes of temperature, going from hot to cold or vice versa which can be difficult when moving from overheated and poorly ventilated offices to outside

In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with evidence based therapies such as natural Low Dose Medicine (L.D.M,), gut health and microbiome restoration, nutritional and nutraceutical therapies, lifestyle medicine, natural hormonal balancing, glandular support, soft tissue and joint support, complex homeopathy, herbals, needle free mesotherapy and needle free acupuncture to achieve excellent results.

Dr Bhatti's Gut Health & Mocrobiome Restoration Therapy for general wellbeing and weight management

16/1/2019

Dr Bhatti runs a complementary clinic specialising in Gut Health & Restoration. He has been practicing Natural Gut Health Restoration for more than 25 years with excellent results. Poor gut health can affect you physically as well as mentally and can lead to many illnesses. Healing of the gut and stomach lining along with restoration of microbiome can lead to great improvement of general health, vitality and immunity.
Dr Bhatti identifies the most common causes of obesity: poor diet, lack of exercise, bad eating habits, stress and strains of lifestyle, working conditions, medical conditions, certain medications and sometimes just loving food too much.

He suggests three basic approaches to weight management with gut health and microbiome restoration, nutritional manipulation, nutritional supplementation, and Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M) which is an evidence based natural therapy safe to use for adults as well as children with excellent results

At the Gut Health & Restoration Clinic we treat every person as a unique individual. No two people are alike or have the same problems or complaints, so we design a individualistic and unique nutritional and treatment plan to suit each and every person according to their particular needs.

The first advice Dr Bhatti offers new patients before embarking on a diet or an overall plan is a visit to their General Practitioner for any medical advice and to rule out any serious medical condition.
“Too much insulin in your blood, hypoglycaemia, anxiety, diabetes or glandular problems can all cause weight gain” he said. “Recent studies show that people suffering from candida, dysbiosis, leaky gut syndrome, stress, anxiety, depression, lack of good quality sleep, allergies, and some chronic conditions can also put on weight due to cravings. Weight gain can also be hereditary, as the discovery of the obesity gene has indicated” he added.

Dr. Bhatti's approach to treating gut health related problems is through a combination of evidence based therapies such as Nutritional Healing, Needle free Acupuncture, Hormonal balancing and other Complementary Therapies such as Lifestyle Medicine and natural Low Dose Medicine with excellent results.

Frozen shoulder

14/1/2019

Frozen shoulder, also known as Adhesive Capsulitis which means sticky shoulder describes this condition accurately it occurs in about 5% of the population. More common in women than men, most ladies in the beginning of the condition may find it hard to reach the clasp of their brassier, back pockets, worse at night and when lying on the affected side can be excruciating and affect sleep.

Usually it hits people between the ages of 40 – 60 and be associated with other diseases such as Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Metabolic Syndrome (obesity, blood sugar issues and chronic low grade inflammation). Frozen shoulder can also be associated with trauma, hypothyroidism, menopause, smoking and other chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s, stroke etc..

There are 3 phases of the symptoms of frozen shoulder:
Phase 1: Freezing also known as the painful phase it can last from 2-10mths
Phase 2: The frozen stage, when the shoulder becomes stiff and movement is limited which can last from 9 to 14mths. The pain is more frequent with over use.
Phase 3: Thawing which could take from 3mths to 1 year or more.
Some scientists believe that sedentary lifestyle leading to low activity or injury near the shoulder joint or a major surgery can be a trigger this condition.

Dr Bhatti has been treating frozen shoulder with a complementary approach for more than 25 years and his experience shows that earlier intervention, combination of conventional, complementary therapies, physio and exercise can sometimes give great results.

Complementary therapies which can give positive results are :

  • Medical Needle Free Acupuncture
  • Laser Acupuncture
  • Medical Trigger Point Therapy/Needle free Mesotherapy
  • Nutrition/Natural joint and soft tissue support
  • Conventional therapies usually include :
  • Medication
  • Physio
  • Surgery and homecare

Other conditions which mimic frozen shoulder are:
  1. Bursitis
  2. Arthritis
  3. Wear and tear of shoulder joint
  4. Inflammation of Bicep tendon
  5. Pain coming from the neck due to disc deterioration in the cervical area
  6. Autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and sometimes cancer.
Hence it is very important that if you suspect you have a frozen shoulder that you contact your doctor and rule out any other conditions.

In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with evidence based therapies such as Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), gut health and microbiome restoration, nutritional and nutraceutical therapies, lifestyle medicine, natural hormonal balancing, glandular support, soft tissue and joint support, complex homeopathy, herbals, needle free mesotherapy and needle free acupuncture to achieve excellent results.
